In 1968, while he interviewed a co-director of a small publishing company, Pratchett mentioned he had written a manuscript. Pratchett ‘s breakthrough as a published novelist was somewhat accidental. He married Lyn Purves – his first and only wife - in October He has a daughter - Rhianna Pratchett, also a writer. His first career choice was journalism and he left school at 17 in 1965 to start working for a local newspaper. Pratchett however described himself as a "non-descript student" and credited his education to the Beaconsfield Public Library. At school he was an active member of the debating society and wrote stories for the school magazine. His early interests included radio and computers. Pratchett was born in Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, England, the only child of David and Eileen Pratchett. With over 85 million books sold in 37 languages he is one of the most popular writers of all time.
